Yahoo Zimbra, Email Access Without Internet

Accessing Email without Internet? You may want to try with open source owned by Yahoo, Zimbra. Zimbra is an open source messaging and collaboration unit which is intended to ignore all connections with Microsoft and yahoo merger talk. Zimbra can be used to test accessing offline, especially on YahooMail, Gmail and email application web, AOL Mail.

Looking at POP (Post Office Protocol) effect, IMAP and standard iCal for calendar application, Yahoo Zimbra Desktop Beta 3 is designed to allow user to access their email application, by offline option. Zimbra’s function is as a productive application since it can help one’s business person to be able to work with his laptop, for instance on the airplane or some places without Internet connection.

Besides offline, Zimbra Desktop can also work online to Zimbra Documents, a document and spreadsheet program which can ease the user to send photos. This means that user can make and edit document, also spreadsheet without switching to choose between desktop programs or send a large email attachment first; it all can be done at the same time. Zimbra features, Zimbra briefcase is to ease user in uploading and accessing spreadsheet, document and presentation thus users don’t have to save all file attachments in an email. Other features such as Zimbra Tasks, which allow user to arrange project based on date, priority, progress and property percentage.

Yahoo bought Zimbra last September 2007, and can be downloaded for free from the ZImbra Desktop Beta version 3 site (www.zimbra.com/desktop). Zimbra can combine email application ZCS (Zimbra Collaboration Suite); Yahoo Mail, Gmail, AOL Mail or IMAP/POP server.

According to Yahoo, Zimbra is actually made for email systems alternative other than Microsoft Outlook, however maybe many people who choose Zimbra more because of Zimbra is more open and has modern Web 2.0 terms. Whilst Google also provides Google Docs tool, which has the same plan like Gmail and Google Calendar this year. Also Microsoft will launch Windows Live email which  works offline.

    what do you mean by accesing email without internet? do you mean it work at “Offline Mode”? as such functionality already exist in most email system like Microsoft Outlook. But, email definitely need internet to update.

    This must mean that Zimbra constantly backs up whatever email application that you are usin, which is nice, but does anyone know how much system memory this application might take up?
