Social Networking Sites, Time Bomb For Companies?
It is true that social networking sites are in the heart of many people. However, do you know that this site can be like a time bomb for companies’ network security?
As said by Trend Micro, a company that handles Internet security problem, social networking sites can be a threat to security not only for users but also for companies networking.
And what is the reason? Many employees access the social networking sites from their workplace, using PC and company internet connection. The bad thing is this site is usually used to spread evil programs.
Raimund Genes, Chief Technology Officer Trend Micro said, the social networking site popularity has made people easily targeted for intangible crimes. “The malicious programs are distributed through email attachment, the program is put in the link web2.0, that is why so many malicious programs that are spread in the social networking site,” he added as quoted in the softpedia.
Whilst the study done by Trend Micro involving 1600 respondents from four countries. England, USA, German, and Japan, showed that the number of people visiting the site from their workplace increase by four percent last year.
From the study done in the west countries, represented by USA, England, and German, the site is often visited by big companies’ employees. For instance, in England the percentage rise from 11 percent to 27 percent, whilst in German rise from 9 percent to 13 percent. Whereas in Asia, which was represented by Japan, employees that often visit the social networking sites come from smaller companies.
