Seagate Barracuda 7200.11, A 1.5 Terrabyte Hardisk

Seagate has announced the launch of its latest desktop PC hard drive with 1.5 Terrabyte (TB) capacity, Barracuda 7200.11. This product is said to fulfill the never ended demand of bigger storage for digital storage. Barracuda 7200.11 is the eleventh generation of Seagate’s disk drive for desktop PC. This product is claimed to be the first who has the biggest jump of hard drive capacity in this half century of hard drive history, with 0.5 terrabyte bigger than previous capacity, 1 TB.

This 3.5 inch drive wrapped 1.5 TB capacity with four discs and series of interface ATA 3GB/sec and able to give transfer data speed up to 120 MB/sec with the choice of 32 MB or 16 MB cache.Furthermore, Seagate also introduce 2.5 inch drive with 0.5 terrabyte capacity for laptop, which are Momentus 5400.6 and Momentus 7200.4.

Both are the fourth generation of laptop data storage from Seagate using PMR. Momentus 5400.6 is a drive with 5400 rpm combining an ATA series interfaced 3 GB/sec with the capacity around 120 Gb up to 500 GB and 8 MB cache. Barracuda 7200.11 with 1.5 TB will be shipped from August 2008. While Momentus 5400.6 and 7200.4 will be shipped at the fourth quarter of 2008.
