The Controversial Bikini of Miss Indonesia 2008

Miss Indonesia 2008 - Putri Raemawasti

The wear of bikini in contest has been a hot debate for many years in Indonesia. Some people think that wearing bikini in such contest doesn’t reflect Indonesia’s culture. They said it’s vulgar to show private parts of the body in such contest and consider it as an act supporting pornography. For the last couple of years, each of former Miss Indonesia always got protested by some groups of moslems in the country because of this issue, though the formers were wearing a one-piece bikini swimwear, not a bikini. I expect that this year the protest and demos will be even greater since this year, were wearing a for the swimwear session of Miss Universe 2008.

, a 22yo young and has been chosen to be Miss Indonesia in Miss Universe 2008 contest. As from my point of view, I just can’t understand why there are people who still bothering about this kinda stuff while other important things such as the raise of petrol and the world’s recession has made our life more difficult. No matter what people say, I wish you the best in the competition. Go Putri!

In that new rule about this online activity, a blogger or a webmaster who is found promoting crimes such as corruption, prostitution or insulting a religion will be executed. Actually, has been in extreme surveillance for a while. In 2005, a blogger named Mojtaba Saminejad was charged for insulting a religion and he was almost executed. Nevertheless he successfully escaped from the punishment.

Blogging has been a popular activity in Iran. Even Iranian president, is reported to have his own blog.

As quoted from Jerusalem Post, Iranian people love to blog with persian language. They also follow world’s trend, such as micro blogging. Seems that the tight surveilance from their government doesn’t affect them very much.
